Biography

 

Originally from Newcastle-on-Tyne but now based in Yorkshire, a semi-professional musician since the mid-1960s playing (in the UK and abroad) Rock/Blues/R&B/M.O.R, and Country Music from the late 1970s.

 

Playing in various bands travelling Nation-wide and also to Ireland, Holland and Spain, and a brief appearance on TV and local radio stations in the UK.

 

An electrician by trade working at various small local radio stations both as Engineer and Presenter - including Energy Radio and Calderdale Sound - presenting Country / R&B / middle of the road music, interviews and live sessions. The most prominent station being and still is with the original 'Radio Caroline', presenting regular programmes from the ship "Ross Revenge" and also via satellite from various land-based studios.

 

Organised a few small charity shows in the past, organised and produced a successful Country Music Show at the Theatre Royal, Wakefield in October 1993 with all proceeds donated to Arthritis Research.
Also been involved over the years with Hospital Radio attaining the position of Chief Engineer and Chief executive at two large stations. In 1994 had to leave the management side due to workload but still involved in advising & maintenance.

 

Working primarily as Compére-DJ-Presenter but also as Stage Manager or Sound Engineer for several organisations in a variety of venues including theatres, night clubs, hotels and festivals and mostly for The Warner Holiday Group, Haven Holidays, Butlins Hotel, Rank Leisure, Paul Bridson Productions, Tony Best Leisure, and P&O Cruises.

 

From January 1994 started the names of 'COUNTRY SPIRIT' and 'FREE SPIRIT' - collectively known as 'SPIRIT2', for live events and radio programmes.

 

Resident DJ / Compére for the Country night since its opening at Jumpin Jaks, Leeds and Wakefield.

 

Also presented quality Rock and Rhythm & Blues at the 'Atlantic Studio', an in-house radio station for the 'Hughes Corporation' which is a large American style Bar / Diner in West Yorkshire.

 

A fan of the original Radio Caroline since Day1 1964, directly involved since 1991, presenting programs from the ship since 1996, also regularly from the Caroline land based studios in Maidstone,  Kent.

 

After becoming very disheartened with the modern day middle of the road "pop" country music, decided to drop the 'Country Spirit' title and just use  'Spirit2'... "The Sound of Free Spirit";  to collectively  include Quality Rock / Rhythm & Blues / Blues / Roots / Alternative Country  & the best of the rest...  Real people.. making Real music.. played with Real feeling.
